Flu Information

Florida Department of Health in Martin County

Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu and its potentially severe complications is to get a flu vaccine each fall.

The Epidemiology Division conducts regular surveillance to measure trends in influenza and influenza-like illness in the community. That includes trends in emergency departments, hospitalizations, schools, positive lab results for influenza, pneumonia & influenza deaths, outbreaks, and other indicators.
