Drain and Cover to Fight the Bite - Heavy rains and warm weather increase mosquito breeding

By Renay Rouse

November 07, 2019

Warm weather and heavy rains provide the perfect opportunity for mosquitoes to breed. The Florida Department of Health and Martin County Mosquito Control urge residents to do their part to stop mosquitoes from multiplying around homes and business areas.

Drain and Cover
To protect against mosquito bites, residents should wear protective clothing, such as long sleeves or pants, and apply insect repellent according to directions when outdoors, especially at dawn or dusk when mosquitoes are more active.

Residents are also advised to repair or replace any broken windows or screens, and drain any standing water around their home or business as mosquitoes leave eggs in even small amounts of water.

A “Drain & Cover” video for mosquito bite prevention can be found here.
